My colleague Lorna is embarking on her ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence), and has kindly volunteered to let us witness her journey to certification. She will provide us with an honest account of her experiences, giving us an insight into what getting your licence to drive a computer is really all about.
5 Reasons why it is time to study for my ECDL Qualification
- I’m the ECDL Senior Product Manager, Lorna Tyrtania. I joined ThirdForce just over a year ago and it’s about time frankly!
- What better way to truly understand the learner experience our ECDL diagnostic, courseware and testing solution offers – than to be that learner?
- Having studiously avoided databases all my life (they’ve always looked far too scary!), it’s about time I find out if there is any truth in my colleagues claims that they would speed up and improve my data crunching skills. Said module, (number 5 always left to last) of the ECDL qualification is persistently the one that learners seem to dread the most. I always work on the basis that if I can do it, anyone can – time will tell…
- My teenage step-children are dangerously close to having better IT skills than me (in truth they beat me hands down, but please don’t tell them!) By having my ECDL certificate proudly stuck to the fridge they will hopefully surrender any grand ideas they currently may have.
- I’ll have an internationally recognised ICT qualification to add to my CV and I’ll have a host of new ICT strings to add to my bow, which will hopefully make me much more efficient and productive at work. And no more haranguing colleagues to help with my data crunching!
So, please check back and see how I’m getting on, I’ll give you regular updates on my progress. Feel free to send me some motivational messages and if you’ve already passed your ECDL let me know what a difference it has made to your life, it could spur me on. Wish me luck!
