Last week I attended one of the events that MindLeaders ThirdForce sponsors; the Bersin IMPACT 2011 conference in St. Petersburg, Florida. If you’re not familiar with it, the conference is held by Bersin & Associates; a recognised leading research and consulting company in the area of Talent Management. I’ve always found IMPACT conference of high quality and this year that high quality standard remained, conference places sold out and over 450 delegates attended. For the very first time, this year’s IMPACT conference presentations were streamed live on the internet- drawing in live virtual audiences from Europe and USA.
I particularly enjoyed Josh Bersin’s opening keynote; a theme around ‘Building the Borderless Workplace’. Josh’s presentation shared some compelling insights into the extensive research conducted on the organisations they currently work with. One of the main trend findings that really struck me was around three fundamental and imperative strategies CEO’s in these organisations were looking to drive, the findings were as follows:
- Growth: All the major geographical markets are beginning to show growth again. So CEOs have to find a way to drive their businesses for growth
- Globalisation: These growth markets are global. So CEO’s have to really get their head around this reality NOW
- Innovation: in a highly competitive market and with the recent economic climate, innovation is one of the key factors for survival and for staying ahead of competition. Particularly key for creating a distinguished identity in a ever increasing saturated market where distinction can be very difficult. With that, CEO’s are placing innovation as one of the organisations key objectives.
Those three points resonated with me and, particularly around growth and innovation. It’s useful to note that the points above are still common challenges across many businesses.
